Making the Change takes Courage reel

Hello people who have made it this far into the website! I am very new to being responsible for a webpage and creating content so please bear with me - or better yet, send me ideas on how to improve, what to include in the blog etc.

When making the reel there were some great things left on the cutting room floor.... My friend Annie talked about a specific incidence of funeral poverty, about her friend who had a kidney transplant some years ago, that has now failed, and because of other health complications there are no options. She is on dialysis three days a week, has had to halve her working hours and income, and cash in her superannuation to be able to afford her rent. The superannuation wont last long.

In the ACT, to receive funeral assistance two people have to apply, the deceased and the applicant. The applicant cannot be both. And both people have to be in receipt of a government pension of some kind or prove very low income. If you don't have family and have always worked and not been on a benefit, that can not only be a difficult hurdle, but one that is designed to feel shameful. No wonder people crowdfund!

My friend Rob Parnell gave me some brilliant photos he took but none made it in (there is one on the webpage, the butterfly and new buds).

My dad Ken Davidson (Melbourne Age writer for many years, then D!SSENT journal) made a supportive video to be included but we had to keep the reel short and so it wasn't included, but I can assure you he is a believer in what I am doing :)
